In Greek mythology the God Pan created an instrument to lure the nymph Syrynx. Today there are living pan pipe traditions throughout South America, Africa, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

The contemporary sense of the instrument is expansive. From soloists in jazz, classical, contemporary and folk, and nearly every musical genre, through to collaboration within dance, circus, theatre, new instument making and more.

The Pan People Project is a continuing exploration of traditional cultures and the contemporary possibilities of this versatile musical instrument.
